These are educated, determined folk who are prepared to tackle evil in its powerful and diverse forms. Are they cursed, determined, or not entirely aware of the dangers they face? Knox get into some odd adventures, even for monster hunters. And I also love drawing the creatures, of course. Not so long ago I really just concentrated on drawing figures, but have a newfound love for setting scenes and backgrounds. Tatty old villages, castles, and spooky woods. I also have found a great love for drawing the environment. I love to see how they react to the situations they are in and just to see how they relate to one another. WJC: The creatures! The Professor, Knox, and Van Sloan too, actually. JF: What is your favorite thing to draw in Our Encounters With Evil? I find they need to have a something fairly sensible about them to root them in this world they can get away with being utterly crazy (Duke Kurtz) if there are elements we can recognise or even identify with. Lots more stories to tell and lots more creatures to design. The characters that Mike Mignola wrote in the first book were so full of promise and a lot of them didn’t last very long, so I had an opportunity to reincarnate some of those guys and develop fitting stories to frame them in. I had a chance to speak with Johnson-Cadwell about the project and what he likes drawing in the original graphic novel.
